Highland Park 1958 70cl~~The Highland Park 1958 is a very limited edition of 665 bottles of 40 Year Old Highland Park Single Malt Scotch Whisky.

The 1958 is presented in a wooden presentation box which also contains a unique hand-blown, hand engraved Caithness Glass Decanter depicting the stone circle at the Ring of Brodgar on Orkney, with a solid glass stopper featuring the "H" and a specially commissioned hardback book celebrating both Whisky and Orkney.

All four items are numbered (e.g. 1 of 665) and Jim Robertson, Highland Park's previous Distillery Manager, has personally signed each book.

Tasting Notes
Colour: Deep orange.
Aroma: Sweet tobacco. Scenty. Sandalwood. Walnuts.
Taste: Sultanas, lemons, vanilla, butterscotch, toasted almonds. Very restrained sweetness.

Smiths Glenlivet 1943~~Very rare whisky vintage, having been distilled during World War II.

Sitting in the Glen of the same name, taking its water from the River Livet which feeds into the Spey, Glenlivet has been producing whisky since the days when only small scale domestic production was legal. George Smith (of George & JG Smith) was the first distiller in the Glen to produce legal whisky on a large scale, a choice which forced Smith to arm himself against the threat of attack from the illicit distillers in the region. A second challenge came in the form of the neighbouring whisky producers in the Glen (and outside the Glen) when they attempted to use the Glenlivet name to market their own whisky. With the courts on his side, Smith forced his neighbours to relinquish the name and today Glenlivet remains one of the most renowned whiskies in the world. Macallan 1948 70cl~~Selected from only three Spanish oak sherry casks, a mere 366 bottles of The Macallan 1948 have been released - a truly collectible treasure. Each bottle and accompanying certificate bears a unique date, corresponding to one of the 366 days of 1948, a leap year. Certificates have been individually signed by David Robertson, Master Distiller and Macallan "Nose" at that time.

The whisky possesses a remarkable character, imbued with an unusual phenolic note accompanying the rich, spicy, resinous, fruit character which typifies The Macallan.

Each bottle is presented in a hand-crafted box, turned from a single piece of the very finest cherry wood. The 1948 has been bottled at cask strength, ensuring that its unique character can be appreciated to the full. The 1948 was initially only available in the UK, but is now available internationally from renowned whisky stores. Macallan 1951 70cl~~Over the years it has been our Master Distiller's pleasure to regularly sample and assess our ancient sherry casks, selecting just the right moment when the spirit has reached the zenith of its maturity. Only then do the directors of The Macallan order that it be bottled.

Only 2 sherry butts from 1951 have met the required quality threshold. They have been vatted to offer unrivalled complexity and rarity. Bottled at natural cask strength without chill filtration or artificial colouring, the character of this whisky has been shaped only by the passage of time.

The casks selected were numbers 1541 and 1542, filled with spirit back on the 20th December 1951. Since then, these casks have slumbered together in the same warehouse.

Given the age of this whisky you will not be surprised to learn that the angels have had their fair share, enjoying just over 62% of the spirit that was originally filled in to these two ancient sherry butts. This leaves only 38% for your enjoyment, producing some 632 bottles and 400 miniatures.

Interestingly, the strength of the whisky is almost identical in the two casks, 49.4% and 49.9% respectively, suggesting an even maturation with each cask contributing an equal share to the flavour profile of the whisky.

Nose:
Strong citrus fruits (with orange to the fore) rich dried fruits and apple. Lightly floral balanced with resinous spice - strong cloves and hints of cinnamon.

Taste:
Rich treacle toffee lightened with citrus orange. Spicy with a hint of peat smoke.

Finish:
Orangey with rich resinous spicy wood - long and lingering with a kiss of peat smoke.

Nose:
Clove, incense, coffee grounds, raisin, date, liquorice, rubber and a hint of rancio.

Palate:
There's gunky earthy tones, coal fires/soot but also a lovely bramble fruitiness. Spicy, figgy clove.

Finish:
Bone dry, cigar smoke, dried malt.

Comment:
A bit scary. A 49-year-old malt with stunning balance and vivaciousness ...but I can't afford it on my wages.

Benromach Classic 55 70cl~~On Friday, 28 January 1949, the Benromach stills, standing in the heart of the distillery, completed a distillation of Benromach Single Malt Whisky and under the supervision of distillery manager, Tom McKerron, a specially selected cask was filled.

For fifty-five years, cask number 706 sat quietly maturing, its sturdy oak staves protecting and nurturing the valuable spirit.

The contents of this cask, just 70 bottles, is what remains today worldwide of this very precious whisky

Colour: Bright Orange Gold
Nose: Sweet with rich fruit aromas - orange peel and red apple skins. A delicate perfumed note and spices - cinnamon stick. A subtle smoky edge with traces of menthol and hessian.
Palate: Coating with an oily texture, oak and peat smoke flavours combine. Sweet elements and some herbal flavours - a hint of spearmint.
Body: Mellow and Rich.
Finish: Slightly sweet with traces of fruit and smoke.
Cask Type: Refill Bourbon Barrel

Dalmore 50 YO 52% 70cl~~Master Blender Richard Paterson does a trick with this whisky involving a big mouthful and a party popper, go see him if you get the chance!

Very seldom does the opportunity arise to acquire such a rare spirit as The Dalmore 50 year old Single Highland Malt Whisky. Carefully stored at the Dalmore distillery for over half a century, the minimum age of the whisky contained within is 50 years old, however a proportion of the spirit was first drawn on the 4th March 1922, which in turn is reputed to embody some Dalmore from 10th June 1868 and 18th February 1878. The result is a truly soft, elegant and finely balanced malt whisky, bottled at the natural cask strength of 52% alcohol by volume, with exquisite tones of Olorosso sherry and only a subtle hint of American White Oak. Taking an age to reach perfection, but only seconds to recongnise, this is a deserved masterpiece.

Each Dalmore 50 year old is individually numbered and signed by third generation Master Blender, Richard Paterson, the number to be found on the inner lid of the presentation box. Each lockable, felt lined presentation box, is hand crafted in Scotland using traditional methods-which means no two boxes are exactly identical. The spirit itself is contained in a heavy cut glass crystal decanter, fitted with a hand selected cork stopper and coated with max, embossed with the Dalmore Stags Head emblem. A certificate within the box describes how to best enjoy and care for the Dalmore 50 years old.

Mortlach 1938 70cl~~On Thursday, The 20th October 1938 the men of Mortlach Distillery near Dufftown, Banffshire completed the distillation of a single speyside malt and filled a cask especially for Gordon & MacPhail, whisky merchants of Elgin. The single malt whisky has been allowed to quietly mature for 60 years, Cask number 2657 - its strong oak staves home at one time to the finest Williams and Humbert Sherry - Now releases a whisky of age, character and distinction.

Each whisky chest has been individually hand crafted by a local coppersmith who used only burnished copper, wood and brass. The hand made whisky chest acknowledges the roles these materials play in transforming - cool clear water from Scotland's hills and barleycorn from her farms, to become ' Uisge Beatha' - the water of life. The whisky chest also pays tribute to the craftsmanship of coppersmiths who to this very day manufacture the stills unique to each distillery and the coopers who build the oak casks to enable long and careful maturations to take place.

A finely-fashioned brass lock recalls bygone times when glass-encased spirit safes were sealed and checked daily by excise men and where you, the only key holder, can unlock the hidden treasures. Inside the whisky chest is a hand-crafted cut crystal Decanter inscribed with Mortlach distillery and distillation year 1938 along with the sixty year old malt whisky contained in the decanter - all secured by a link chain.

Each decanter is individually hand numbered with only 100 in total being made available worldwide. Within the secret brass drawer rests the crystal decanter's stopper and your own personal miniature dressed in the traditional 'Celtic' label and individually numbered matching the decanter.
